Beast From The East Ireland weather as Met Eireann issue 'hazardous' 84-hour snow shower warning

A severe and dangerous 84-hour warning has been issued by Met Eireann as the country braces itself for the return of the Beast From The East.

For three and a half days, Ireland will be hit with very cold temperatures by day and "sharp and severe" wintry weather at night.

Sunday morning right through until Wednesday afternoon will see "showers of sleet or snow at times in eastern counties leading to hazardous conditions on roads and paths".

The warning is in place from 6am on Sunday until 6pm on Wednesday but the prospect of snow goes as far as even next Thursday and Friday.

Temperatures will drop to as low as -4C at times with falls of sleet and snow covering the country for as long as 5 days.

Saturday will see scattered showers in the morning continuing through the day.

Sunny spells will develop with temperatures of 7C falling to zero overnight with isolated showers and some frost forming.

Sunday is when the white fun will start though as day time temperatures will hover around 2C with showers turning wintry later in the day.

There will be wintry showers, mainly in eastern counties, feeling very cold during the days with low temperatures and windchill followed by frosty and icy nights.

Looking more at 'The Beast', the weather phenomenon bringing the wintry weather is a sudden stratospheric warming event which occurred in the Arctic recently.

And this is the same event that sprung 'The Beast From The East' on the country this time three years ago which brought Ireland's heaviest snow in three decades.

The SSW causes the jet stream to divert and head in the direction of Ireland as it brings cold easterly winds across Europe.
