Beast caged for raping drunk and 'vulnerable' stranger in Glasgow flat

A man who raped a drunken stranger in a flat was yesterday jailed for five years.

Ahmed Haji, 31, from Yoker, Glasgow, claimed the sex was consensual but the jury at the High Court in Glasgow did not believe him.

Temporary judge Simon Collins QC told Haji: “You continue to deny your guilt but the jury rejected your account. You will go to prison for five years.”

Haji, who appeared in court via video link, was also placed on the sex offenders’ register. The rape took place in Springburn, Glasgow, in August 2018.

Co-accused Abdalla Awad, 23, was convicted of molesting the victim before Haji raped her. No background report was available for Awad and his case was continued until June 1.

He was also placed on the sex offenders’ register.

Jurors heard Haji was caught with his bare bottom showing as he attacked the woman after Awad had sexually assaulted her.

Awad then sexually assaulted a sleeping woman months later.

The friends denied the crimes.

Haji was convicted of rape and Awad of two charges of sexual assault.

Awad, of Barmulloch, Glasgow, was found guilty in his absence. He was too ill to be in court for the verdict.

The rape victim was described as “vulnerable” due to drink she had taken earlier.

Awad’s second attack occurred in a flat in Glasgow’s Woodlands area in December 2018.
