Bears working to trade Ryan Groy to Patriots

Aug. 10--The Chicago Bears have a trade in the works that will send guard Ryan Groy to the New England Patriots and bring them a linebacker in return.

Groy left camp late Monday morning to travel to Foxboro, Mass., where he must pass a standard physical before the trade is official. The Bears will receive rookie linebacker Matthew Wells, a sixth-round draft pick from Mississippi State, in return, according to ESPN. Groy, who played at Wisconsin, appeared in four games and made three starts at the end of the season. It's possible the Bears receive only a conditional draft pick in exchange for Groy.

Wells is an undersized linebacker, listed by the Patriots at 6-2, 215 pounds. Wells ran the 40-yard dash in 4.44 seconds at his pro day and New England selected him 178th overall with the second pick in the sixth round.

The Bears have held two separate tryouts for offensive linemen during camp. The first resulted in the signing of undrafted rookie Tyler Moore. Last Friday, the team worked out veteran Lucas Nix. He started 10 games at guard for the Oakland Raiders in 2013 and has appeared in 15 career games.

Nix, who was undrafted out of Pitt in 2012, underwent knee surgery last summer before being let go by the Raiders. The Bears must cut the roster from the current limit of 90 to 75 on Sept. 1.
