Bears won’t have to face Raiders LB Vontaze Burfict in Week 5

As the Chicago Bears prepare for a Week 5 match-up against the Oakland Raiders, they won’t have to worry about dealing with LB Vontaze Burfict.

Burfict has been suspended for the remainder of the 2019 season following a helmet-to-helmet hit on Indianapolis Colts TE Jack Doyle, for which Burfict was ejected.

It’s the longest suspension for an on-field act in NFL history.

Given Burfict’s reputation as a repeat offender of player safety rules, this extended suspension should come as no surprise.

According to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport, Burfict will appeal his suspension.

This is far from the first time Burfict has instigated helmet-to-helmet contact, as well as faced suspension as a result.

Burfict was suspended for four games for a hit on Chiefs fullback Anthony Sherman in 2017. He was also suspended four games for a similar hit on then-Steelers WR Antonio Brown in 2016.

Burfict’s last suspension occurred in 2018, where he got four games for PED violation.

Luckily, the Bears won’t have to worry about Burfict when they head to London to face the Raiders in a Week 5 contest that comes right before an important bye week.
