It’s been a rough offseason for Chicago Bears fans. And it’s been one bad decision after the other that has fans questioning the future of the franchise.
It all started with the decision to retain GM Ryan Pace and head coach Matt Nagy, followed by signing veteran quarterback Andy Dalton as a consolation prize to failing to trade for Russell Wilson and then releasing two-time Pro Bowl cornerback Kyle Fuller.
So, at this point, Bears fans certainly want — no, need — something to believe in. And that could happen in next week’s NFL draft.
The Bears have been mentioned several times as a team that could potentially trade up in next week’s NFL draft. That, of course, is a direct effect of their quarterback woes that have haunted them for decades.
But the thing is, there’s no guarantee that a quarterback will be available even if Chicago manages to trade up into the top 10. With five top-tier quarterback prospects — and quarterbacks slated to go 1-2-3 — the odds aren’t great for the Bears.
So if a trade is going to happen, you figure something will need to happen on draft night to make Pace pull the trigger to trade up into a spot that could land a Justin Fields or Trey Lance, should they slip.
