Bears will open up 2021 season in primetime against the Rams

Ahead of the 2021 NFL schedule release, it’s been announced that the Chicago Bears will play their first game of the season against the LA Rams on September 12 on Sunday Night Football. It will be Matthew Stafford’s first game with the Rams, so it’s only fitting that the Bears help welcome him to his new team.

This will be the third time under Matt Nagy that the Bears start the season on the road – and the third time they start the season playing a primetime game in the last four years.

These two teams have played each other in each of the last three seasons, with the Rams winning two of the three matchups. One thing to note, all of these games were primetime games – with the home team winning all three of them.

The Bears defense played well against Sean McVay’s offense, holding former quarterback Jared Goff to just two passing touchdowns. Goff turned the football over five times in the air, fumbled twice and only completed 56.8% of his passes over the three meetings.

Stafford is 11-9 against the Bears in 20 career matchups, throwing for 32 touchdowns and 5,440 yards. He has turned the ball over 23 times in the air, along with 10 fumbles against Chicago.

This will be a fan-friendly matchup to start the season for both teams. Make sure to tune in to NFL Network tonight at 7 PM CT for the full schedule release.
