Bears will likely face Saints without Drew Brees in Week 7

One game on the Chicago Bears’ schedule just got a little easier on paper.

New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees will undergo surgery to repair a torn ligament on his throwing thumb. He’s expected to miss six weeks.

Brees sustained the injury during the second drive of Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Rams. As he was releasing the ball, Brees’ hand hit Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald, and his fingers were pressed against his own helmet.

Brees left the game and did not return.

The Saints are slated to visit Chicago in Week 7, and it doesn’t look likely that Brees will be ready in time for the pivotal match-up.

Brees’ injury is a massive blow to the Saints, who will have to regroup without their star quarterback for at least a month and a half. The Bears, it seems, are catching a big break.

Teddy Bridgewater, the NFL’s highest paid back-up quarterback, takes over in Brees’ absence.
