Bears will interview former Lions coach Jim Caldwell for their head coaching vacancy

Could a former Detroit Lions head coach be headed to Chicago to take over that role for the Bears?

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, former Lions head coach Jim Caldwell is expecting to be interviewed by the Bears for their head coach opening. He’s “a presumed candidate” for the job.

Caldwell is one of several candidates, a group that also includes freshly fired Brian Flores, formerly of the Miami Dolphins. Caldwell last worked under Flores in Miami as the Dolphins’ QB coach and assistant head coach in 2019 before Caldwell took a medical leave of absence.

The 66-year-old Caldwell coached the Lions from 2014-2017, compiling a 36-28 record in his four seasons. He also coached the Indianapolis Colts and is noted for his ability to work with quarterbacks. Since leaving the Lions, Caldwell has interviewed for previous head coach openings in Green Bay, Cleveland and Jacksonville.
