The Bears have an important decision to make at the quarterback position this offseason. But don’t expect that decision to come anytime soon.
While Mitchell Trubisky remains the only quarterback currently under contract for the Bears, his future as the starter for 2020 isn’t guaranteed.
Bears general manager Ryan Pace remained noncommittal when it comes to exercising Trubisky’s fifth-year option.
“That decision isn’t triggered until May,” Pace said Tuesday at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, noting the focus for the organization at this time is free agency and the NFL Scouting Combine.
Pace reiterated his faith and Trubisky, noting that the plan is still for Trubisky to start in 2020. But, as we know, plans can change.
With that in mind, Pace made it clear the Bears will look at quarterbacks in free agency and the NFL Draft, as they’re looking to breed competition at the position.
They’ll get a good chance to do just that this week at the NFL Scouting Combine, where prospects like Jordan Love, Jacob Eason, Jake Fromm and Anthony Gordon will be showcasing their skills.
