Bears Week 8 Injury Report: Sherrick McManis remains in concussion protocol

As the Chicago Bears begin preparation for Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers, they’ll do it practically with a clean slate on the injury report.

Defensive back and special team pro Sherrick McManis was the only player that didn’t practice Wednesday at Halas Hall.

McManis suffered a concussion in Sunday’s embarrassing loss to the New Orleans Saints.

Receiver Taylor Gabriel was the last Bears player to suffer a concussion this season, which forced him to miss three weeks. Hopefully McManis’s return is sooner than that given his value on special teams.

Although, return specialist Cordarrelle Patterson did break-off a 102-yard kickoff return touchdown, the Bears’ special teams are coming off their worst game of the season. They had two blocked punts, including one that Pat O’Donnell knocked out to save a touchdown but ended as a safety.

If the Bears are without McManis, they’ll be down easily their best special teamer in a game that, at this point, is a must-win for a Chicago team that feels like it’s on the edge of free fall.
