Bears’ Week 3 comeback win over Falcons made NFL history

It’s been quite a first three weeks of the 2020 season for the Chicago Bears.

The Bears improved to 3-0 with a 30-26 win over the Falcons on Sunday, marking the second time in three weeks that Chicago needed a 16-point fourth-quarter comeback to get the victory.

Here’s how remarkable that is: The Bears are the first team in NFL history with two fourth-quarter 16-point comeback wins in the same season.

Chicago’s done it twice in three weeks.

The Bears’ Week 1 comeback over the Lions took a little bit of luck to complete (a late drop by D’Andre Swift that would’ve given Detroit the victory), but Week 3’s comeback was different. The Bears defeated the Falcons because of their heart, will, and determination.

And Nick Foles.

Foles entered the game in relief of Mitch Trubisky in the second half and tossed three fourth-quarter touchdowns to lead the Bears to the historic win.

Coach Matt Nagy certainly doesn’t want to win games like this every week, but a win is a win in the NFL. And it’s games like Sunday’s victory over the Falcons that will keep this team believing they can get a ‘W’ regardless of how ominous the scoreboard seems.
