Bears Week 10 injury designations: Eddie Goldman questionable

The Detroit Lions Week 10 opponent, the Chicago Bears, have declared their injury designations, including listing starting nose tackle Eddie Goldman (thigh) as questionable.

For the most part, the Bears are one of the healthiest teams in the NFL, but they do have a few key linemen currently injured or on injured reserve.

Ruled OUT

Isaiah Irving (Quad)

Irving is a reserve EDGE rushing linebacker and hasn’t practiced in two weeks, so being ruled out isn’t overly surprising. When he was healthy, he averaged just over 12 snaps a game and his absence is absorbable by a deep roster.

Questionable

Eddie Goldman (thigh)

Goldman left last week’s game after 11 snaps and was unable to return to game action. When practices started this week, Goldman missed Wednesday’s but was able to return to the field on Thursday in limited action and was a full participant on Friday.

If he is unable to play on Sunday, or is limited due to injury, it would be a big advantage for the Lions interior offensive line.

No injury designation for this week

Bilal Nichols (knee)

Nichols injured his knee in practice this week and showed up on Friday’s injury report with a limited practice. He does not carry an injury designation into this weekend’s game, but it will be worth monitoring if he will be on a snap count, as he has been taking starter snaps in Akiem Hicks’ absence.

Key players on injured reserve

Akiem Hicks (elbow)
Kyle Long (hip)

Hicks is an important player for the Bears and has caused the Lions problems in the past. His absence will allow the Lions’ offensive lineman a bit of breathing room — which could grow even more if Goldman can’t play — but the Bears still have solid depth on their defensive line.

Losing Long has had a much bigger impact on the Bears offense. The line was already struggling with him in the lineup, but after he went down, they have had even more problems. Rashaad Coward, an undrafted free agent in 2017, has replaced Long at right guard and while he has been solid in the running game, he has been a major liability in pass protection.
