Bears waive RB Mike Davis, TE Bradley Sowell

The Chicago Bears made it official. They have released veteran running back Mike Davis prior to Sunday’s game against the Detroit Lions.

The Bears waived Davis in order to give them a better shot at securing a fourth-round compensatory pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Chicago promoted preseason darling running back Ryan Nall to the active roster in Davis’ place, where he’ll get his first NFL start in a reserve role. Nall should get some carries in relief of starting running back David Montgomery, as well as on special teams.

The Bears also waived tight end Bradley Sowell to make room for linebacker James Vaughters, who was elevated to the active roster in place of linebacker Isaiah Irving, who has already been ruled out for Sunday’s game.
