Bears vs. Dolphins: Justin Fields shines in preseason debut

The Chicago Bears kicked off an anticipated preseason with a 20-13 victory over the Miami Dolphins at Soldier Field. While there were several players who made impacts during Saturday’s win, there was one player in particular who stole the show.

The Bears’ player of the game is 11th overall pick Justin Fields, who made his hotly-anticipated debut and was everything Bears fans had been hoping for.

Fields played in the second and third quarters, where he completed 14-of-20 passes for 142 yards and one touchdown, adding five rushes for 33 yards and a score on the ground. Fields flashed his natural arm talent and mobility, which allowed him to evade the pass rush and make plays, including an eight-yard scramble for a touchdown.

“I was calm as could be today,” Fields said.

Bears head coach Matt Nagy certainly loved what he saw from Fields in his first game action.

“Everybody here is super excited about the way that he played today,” Nagy said. “You know, we all want the same thing. We understand the buzz. We understand the excitement. That’s why we drafted him you know what I mean. That’s why we drafted him.

“We want to make sure that we continue to go through this thing and we understand the process and this is one game that he came in here and now the beautiful thing is we get to get more practices in and get to see how he comes back next week, you know, against Buffalo and he’s going to have another chance.”
