Bears using trash talk as motivation heading into Sunday’s game vs. Packers

It’s no secret that the Green Bay Packers have dominated the Chicago Bears for the better part of that last couple of decades. So heading into Sunday’s pivotal Week 17 game, where the Bears need a win to get into the postseason, it only makes this game even more meaningful.

Given the rivalry and Green Bay’s success against Chicago, it’s not surprising that some Packers players are talking about how they’re going to manhandle the Bears on Sunday.

“I’m assuming all of us in our facility are definitely going to go in with … ‘Let’s beat the piss out of the Bears because we’ll get the 1-seed,'” Packers offensive lineman David Bakhtiari said earlier this week.

But instead of firing back at them, the Bears have taken an interesting approach to Sunday’s game. The Bears have plastered messages of trash talk from the Packers on the video boards that line the entrance to Halas Hall.

Safety Eddie Jackson made it clear that he and his team have taken note of those comments, and it sounds like they’re in the right mindset heading into Sunday’s must-win game.

“We take heat to the disrespect they’ve been throwing,” he said. “Right now, there’s no more talking.”

There’s no need to explain the magnitude of this game to the Bears, whose postseason hopes rest with a win against the Packers (or an Arizona Cardinals loss). Still, it’s simple. If Chicago wins, they’re in. And there would be no sweeter ending to this regular season than for the Bears to exorcise their demons against Green Bay and earn a playoff berth in the process.
