Bears unveil new throwback uni: white jersey, striped socks and no ‘Wishbone C’

The Chicago Bears Kyle Fuller reveals the Bears’ throwback jersey for the 2019 season during the Bears convention at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center on Friday.

The Bears unveiled a new alternate uniform at their convention Friday night.

The new jersey — which went on sale at Dick’s Sporting Goods for a while last weekend — is white with alternating orange and navy stripes on the shoulders and sleeves. Players will wear the Bears’ 100th season patch over the left pectoral muscle.

The Bears will pair the jerseys with navy pants. Their striped socks alternate navy and orange from the knees to the shoes.

The Bears’ helmet decal will be different, too, with three orange stripes down the middle.

The uniform set is a throwback to 1936 — long before the “Wishbone C” made an appearance on helmets. Chairman George McCaskey has favored the 1936 set for years. He put a 1936 image on the cover of one of his binders detailing Bears uniform history.

The team will wear the uniforms twice at home — on Sept. 29 against the Vikings and Dec. 5 against the Cowboys.

It took about 18 months to research the throwback and put the design together, McCaskey said.

“We’ve had such a standard uniform for so long, that one of the challenges is finding something that fits,” he said. “Our direction from [Bears matriarch] Virginia McCaskey was that she didn’t want anything that, when the team comes out of the tunnel, there’d be any mistaking that it was the Chicago Bears.

“With that guidance, we think we came up with something good.”

The Bears will wear their standard navy home jersey and white jersey for the majority of their games next year. The team will also continue to wear its own alternate jersey.
