Bears Twitter reacts to Mac Jones being named Patriots’ starter – ‘If Jones can start, so can Justin Fields’

There will now be three rookie quarterbacks starting in Week 1 of the 2021 NFL season, and none of them are named Justin Fields.

The New England Patriots released veteran Cam Newton Tuesday morning, which paves the way for rookie Mac Jones as the team’s starting quarterback, joining the first two picks in the draft — the Jaguars’ Trevor Lawrence and the Jets’ Zach Wilson — as rookies starting right out if the gate.

Bears fans are well aware that Matt Nagy has remained firm in his stance that Andy Dalton will be the Week 1 starter, despite an impressive preseason from Fields.

Heck, even Nagy acknowledged the team would feel comfortable with Fields playing in a game right now — and he’s still not the starter.

As you can imagine, Bears Twitter had quite a reaction to Bill Belichick naming rookie Mac Jones the team’s starting quarterback. After all, if it’s good enough for Belichick, shouldn’t it be good enough for Nagy? Plan be darned?
