The Sun-Times’ Mark Potash breaks down the Bears’ practice Saturday, the 11th of 2019 training camp:
Trubisky on target
In the midst of an uneven training camp, Mitch Trubisky had one noteworthy spate of success in an early 7-on-7 drill in the red zone. He completed 4-of-5 passes for touchdowns — to running back Tarik Cohen, wide receiver Anthony Miller, tight end Adam Shaheen and wide receiver Allen Robinson.
The throws to Miller (beating Kyle Fuller for the catch in the end zone), Shaheen (a diving catch over the middle) and Robinson (a reaching grab against Fuller in the front corner of the end zone) were the most impressive. Trubisky overthrew Javon Wims for the only incompletion in that stretch.
Fitting send off
A typically enthusiastic camp-high crowd of 9,141 attended the final public practice at Olivet Nazarene. The players noticed.
“Can’t get over the fan support at practice here at training camp,” guard Kyle Long tweeted.
“Appreciate all the Fans for coming out to this years training camp,” Robinson tweeted. “This season will be a special one!”
This and that
Neither Elliott Fry nor Eddy Piñeiro attempted a field goal Saturday. … Anthony Miller beat reserve cornerback Michael Joseph in a spotlight one-on-one — catching a well-thrown ball near the far right corner of the end zone. Miller did a celebration dance. Joseph did up-downs. … The best throw/catch of the day was Chase Daniel’s deep ball to rookie Riley Ridley, who high-pointed the ball at the 3-yard line against good coverage from Joseph and backed into the end zone.
