The Bears finally found their veteran safety.
After not drafting a strong safety last week, they agreed to sign Tashaun Gipson to a one-year deal, according to Pro Football Talk on Thursday. Gipson, who signed a three-year, $22.5 million deal with the Texans just last year, was cut last week.
Gipson becomes the the leading candidate to start alongside free safety Eddie Jackson, who received a record contract extension in early January. The Bears also have incumbent Deon Bush at strong safety.
Gipson, 29, started his career with the Browns before spending three seasons in Jacksonville. He started 14 games for the Texans last season, recording three of his 23 career interceptions.
He’ll replace Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, who signed a one-year contract with the Cowboys in March after spending one season with the Bears.
A Wyoming alum, Gipson was an undrafted free agent first signed by the Browns in 2012.
