Bears to face banged-up Buccaneers offense Thursday night

If there’s one thing the Bears have been pretty fortunate with so far in 2020, it’s injuries.

That good fortune (depending on how you view it) extends beyond just their healthy roster. They’ve faced a Kenny Golladay-less Lions in Week 1, a Giants team without Saquon Barkley for most of Week 2, and a Falcons offense sans Julio Jones in Week 3.

If you count Marlon Mack being out of the Colts’ lineup in Week 4, the Bears are on a roll.

That roll will continue in Week 5 against the Buccaneers. Wide receiver Chris Godwin is expected to miss the game while he recovers from a hamstring injury and tight end O.J. Howard is out with a torn Achilles that he suffered in Week 4.

There’s a chance running back Leonard Fournette won’t play, too. He’s been deemed a game-time decision by Tampa Bay coach Bruce Arians.

The Bears’ defense is off to a slow start so far through the first quarter of the season, so catching a few breaks on the injury report has certainly helped. If the Lions had Golladay or the Falcons had Jones in their respective lineups, who knows how those games would’ve ended.

Now, on a short week and with the benefit of playing at Soldier Field, Chicago once again has an injury advantage in Week 5.
