It looks like former Pro Bowl running back Lamar Miller will get his chance Monday.
The Bears will promote Miller from their practice squad Sunday, NFL Network reported, because starter David Montgomery is out against the Vikings with a concussion. While the Bears have Cordarrelle Patterson, Ryan Nall and Artavis Pierce ahead of Miller as full-time players on the active roster, there’d be no reason to add him if he wasn’t going to play Monday.
Miller was a star in 2018 with the Texans, and the Bears have had him on their practice squad since early October. They’ve been unclear on whether his knee has recovered enough for him to be effective, but coach Matt Nagy left open the possibility of him playing Monday.
“He could be an option,” Nagy said. “It’s something we’re definitely looking into. He’s done a good job of being able to continue to practice hard each and every day. We’re watching him as we go in practice, and same thing with a guy like Pierce, too.”
The Bears and Patriots have been the only teams to give Miller, 29, a shot since his injury. He signed with New England in August and was cut at the regular-season roster deadline.
Miller topped 1,100 yards of total offense every season from 2014 through ‘18.
