DENVER — Bears tight end Trey Burton will make his season debut against the Broncos after being ruled active for the game.
Burton, who has a groin injury, practiced all week on a limited basis, but both he and coach Matt Nagy said he would be a game-time decision. He said Burton was in a better position to play Sunday than he was in the Bears’ season opener 10 days earlier.
“We’re going to all work together so we’ll see how he looks out there when he gets to that point and hopefully he’s good to go and if he is we’re prepared,” he said. “And if ... we get together and he’s not ready to go that’s not going to affect our game plan. We’re still prepared.”
Burton suffered a groin injury in late August. The team claimed it was unrelated to his groin injury that required offseason surgery.
The Bears’ inactives include cornerback Kevin Toliver; cornerback Sherrick McManis; inside linebacker Josh Woods, running back Kerrith Whyte; wide receiver Riley Ridley; tight end J.P. Holtz; and offensive tackle Rashaad Coward.
