Trey Burton missed the Bears’ playoff game with a groin injury. Turned out, it didn’t feel much better as the offseason went on.
The tight end had sports hernia surgery around two months ago, coach Matt Nagy said, and will miss the rest of organized team activities. The Bears hope to have him back by training camp.
“That’s what we’re hoping, yeah,” Nagy said Wednesday. “That would be great.”
Burton woke up the day before the Bears’ playoff game against the Eagles with a groin injury that was confirmed by team MRIs. He said afterward that his body has a history of locking up when it feels “any threat,” but he didn’t believe his previous struggles with anxiety played a role in the injury.
”When the season was over we just thought, ‘OK, let’s pull back a little bit, and let’s let him get a little bit of rest, come back and see where it’s at,’” Nagy said. “We did that and he just started, he wasn’t feeling really comfortable with it. And so we went ahead and a couple months ago he ended up getting sports hernia surgery. So no need for us to keep dragging this thing out. Let’s get the thing right. And so we feel like we’ve done that.”
