Bears staying focused heading into season finale vs. Vikings

When the Chicago Bears take the field for the final time this season against the Minnesota Vikings, they’ll have nothing left to play for.

Well, unless you count pride.

That could’ve been different had the Bears won their previous two games against the Green Bay Packers and Kansas City Chiefs. They could’ve been playing for a Wild Card spot in Sunday’s finale.

There’s no use focusing on the “what if’s” in a season that seemed doomed from the start. Instead, it’s important to look ahead to an important offseason where the Bears will need to address multiple issues, particularly on offense.

But what is coach Matt Nagy’s message to his team as they prepare for their final game of a disappointing season where there’s nothing to play for in regards to the postseason?

“I think the biggest message for our team and for us is continuing to discuss what we’ve talked about all year long,” Nagy said. “It’s not easy, but [we have] to stay mentally focused knowing it’s our obligation. There’s a pride element I think for all of us, so that’s what we’ll be looking for.”

While many Bears fans are eager for this miserable season to come to an end, you have to imagine it’s the same for the team. At least in regards to moving forward into 2020 and looking to be a better football team than they were in 2019.

But before they do that, they still have to face the Vikings one last time this season. While there’s nothing on the line, it’d be nice to see this team come out fighting — like a team with nothing left to lose. Because, at this point, there really isn’t anything to lose except for a game that doesn’t count anymore.
