CHICAGO _ The Bears overcame the absences of outside linebacker Khalil Mack and wide receiver Allen Robinson on Sunday to break a two-game losing streak with a 24-10 victory over the Jets at Soldier Field.
Mack sat out for the first time in 71 career NFL games because of a lingering ankle injury, but the Bears defense did their part to slow Jets rookie quarterback Sam Darnold without him.
Darnold completed just 14 of 29 passes for 153 yards and found the end zone once, in the fourth quarter.
As Robinson sat out with a groin injury, Bears quarterback Mitch Trubisky struggled to find a rhythm in the first half, and the Bears led just 7-3 at halftime.
But the offense settled in to go on three second-half scoring drives. That included Trubisky's 4-yard touchdown pass to Anthony Miller and Jordan Howard's 2-yard touchdown run.
Bears right guard Kyle Long had to be helped off the field late in the fourth quarter after an apparent right leg or foot injury. He didn't put any weight on his right leg as he came off the field, and he was carted off the field at the two-minute warning of the game.
The Bears struck first after Trubisky found running back Tarik Cohen for a short screen pass, and Cohen turned it into a 70-yard touchdown for a 7-0 Bears lead with 5:24 to play in the first quarter.
Trubisky found Cohen for the quick pass with seven defenders rushing him. Bears wide receiver Taylor Gabriel had a big block of the lone defender between Cohen and the end zone, allowing Cohen to cruise in untouched.
Gabriel gained 18 yards on a pass from Trubisky to open the drive.
Howard broke loose for his longest gain of the season midway through the fourth quarter and capped the drive with a 2-yard touchdown run to put the Bears up 24-10 against the Jets with 7:08 to play.
Howard had gained just 32 yards on 13 carries prior to the final three plays of the drive. But he broke free for a 24-yard run and followed with rushes of 4 and 2 yards to put the Bears back on top by two touchdowns. His longest carry prior to Sunday was a 19-yard gain against the Dolphins.
