The Bears are continuing to do their due diligence at the kicker position, signing John Baron II from San Diego State University as an undrafted free agent.
Baron hit 17-of-22 field goals in 2018 (80 percent), going 5/5 on attempts from 50 yards or more with a long of 54.
He also was perfect on all PAT attempts (27/27) in 2018, earning second-team All Mountain West Honors.
With the position far from solidified, Baron will compete for the starting spot with Redford Jones, Chris Blewitt, and former AAF kicker Elliott Fry.
It’s unlikely that all four will make it to training camp, so the kicking competition should heat up at OTAs.
