Bears sign rookie RB Josh Caldwell

With every passing day, it becomes more apparent that Matt Nagy is content resting his starters and valuable playmakers.

Assuming the Bears are going to hold out Tarik Cohen, Mike Davis and David Montgomery for the remainder of the preseason, the Bears are in need of reserves for the remaining two season games.

After all, you can’t run with Kerrith Whyte and Ryan Nall for the entirety of those two preseason games, as evidenced by how running-back-turned-wide-receiver Taquan Mizzell got some carries in last week’s preseason loss to the Giants.

The Bears added depth at running back with the signing of free agent running back Josh Caldwell on Monday.

An undrafted free agent out of Northwest Missouri State, Caldwell had been with the Chiefs since going undrafted. He was released by Kansas City last week.

Caldwell played in the Chiefs preseason opener, where he had four carries for 59 yards and a touchdown.
