Bears sign Princeton TE Jesper Horsted

The Chicago Bears already have one Ivy League tight end on the roster in Ben Braunecker, the former Harvard standout and current third-stringer on the depth chart.

He’ll have some competition in training camp from a collegiate rival in Princeton’s Jesper Horsted, who the Bears signed to a contract Monday.

Horsted is the Tigers’ all-time leader in receptions and receiving touchdowns.

Horsted was a two-sport athlete and chose the Tigers because of their willingness to let him play both football and baseball. He played wide receiver for Princeton but will convert to tight end in Chicago.

“I think priority number one was going to a school where I could play football and still get a great education, and then a little bonus on top of that was to be able trying out playing baseball, too,” Horsted told the Draft Wire. “I didn’t know if I was really good enough or would get a lot of looks for it, but I definitely wanted to give it a try. So when it all kind of came together here, it was a perfect fit.”

Horsted finished his college career with 196 catches for 2,703 yards and 28 touchdowns.

Here are Horsted’s highlights from the 2019 season:
