Bears sign DL Jonathan Harris from practice squad, waive TE Bradley Sowell

Before Sunday’s divisional showdown against the Minnesota Vikings, the Chicago Bears have added some insurance on the defensive line.

The Bears have elevated DL Jonathan Harris from the practice squad and waived TE Bradley Sowell.

Harris’ signing seems to be an insurance policy in case DT Akiem Hicks can’t go on Sunday. Hicks is dealing with a right knee injury that coach Matt Nagy doesn’t believe is serious. He called it “wear and tear.”

Hicks was able to play through the pain against the Redskins on Monday night, but he exited the game in the fourth quarter. Hicks didn’t practice all week and is questionable against the Vikings.

Hicks is officially a game-time decision for Sunday’s game. But the addition of Harris to the active roster appears to provide depth at defensive line if Hicks can’t play.

But Harris’ promotion to the active roster isn’t exactly a good sign for Hicks’ availability.
