Bears sign DL Abdullah Anderson to practice squad

After seeing some time in last Sunday’s game against the Vikings, Bears DL Abdullah Anderson was waived Monday in order to open a roster spot.

A roster spot that went to TE Bradley Sowell, who like Anderson has been a part of the shuffling that has been Chicago’s active roster and practice squad.

Just one day after releasing Anderson, the Bears signed him to the practice squad after he cleared waivers.

Anderson was elevated from the 53-man roster in order to provide depth to Chicago’s defensive line with the absence of Akiem Hicks and Bilal Nichols.

He played 22 snaps on Sunday before being waived to clear a roster spot, which many speculated would be for QB Tyler Bray, as starting QB Mitch Trubisky nurses a left shoulder dislocation. But that wasn’t the case. At least not yet.

With Anderson being waived and signed to the practice squad, that could be good news for Hicks, who almost played in Sunday’s 16-6 victory over the Vikings.

The Bears travel to London to play the Raiders on Sunday.
