Bears sign AAF placekicker Elliott Fry

The Bears will start their offseason program Monday with three kickers — and still zero games of NFL experience.

Elliott Fry became the third contender to enter the team’s placekicking derby Friday afternoon, signing a three-year contract to complete against offseason signees Chris Blewitt and Redford Jones.

Fry went 14-for-14 for the Orlando Apollos before the startup Alliance of American Football was suspended indefinitely earlier this month. A former walk-on, Fry made 66-of-88 field goals in a four-year South Carolina career that ended after the 2016 season. He later graduated with a double major and took a job as an assistant high school special teams coach.

Like his two competitors, the 24-year-old Fry has never even kicked in an NFL preseason game. The Bears could still draft one this month in their quest to replace Cody Parkey, whom they released after a disastrous season.

Earlier this week, the Bears held a tryout for Nick Rose and Younghoe Koo, two other AAF kickers, but didn’t sign either.
