Bears sign 6th-round pick Duke Shelley to rookie deal

With just five weeks before the Bears report to training camp, the entire 2019 draft class is signed and ready to report.

The Bears announced the signing of sixth-round cornerback Duke Shelley to a four-year rookie deal. He was the last of the Bears’ draft picks to sign his contract.

Shelley will make around $2.5 million over his four-year deal, which is similar to the deal edge rusher Trevon Young got with the Rams last year.

Shelley has impressed during offseason workouts with his dual-threat ability on defense and special teams, as well as his ability to always be around the football.

“He’s quick-twitch,” Nagy told reporters during rookie minicamp. “He was out here doing some special-teams drills early on and you could just really feel the energy and how quick he is making his moves and then doing some DB drills flipping his hips real quick, turning over and then actually finishing with the catch.”

The Bears’ entire 2019 draft class is signed well before training camp, which couldn’t be said for last year’s draft class. It wasn’t until midway through the preseason that the group was locked in, with linebacker Roquan Smith signing late due to negotiations about language in his contract.
