NFL free agency is underway, and the Chicago Bears have made just one move through the first day of the legal tampering period. They’re expected to sign defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi, but there are other needs they need to address, including linebacker.
The Jacksonville Jaguars released linebacker Myles Jack, who’s expected to garner plenty of interest on the free agent market. And the Bears should be among the teams interested in his services in Matt Eberflus’ defense.
The move comes one day after the Jaguars made several splashes in free agency, including the addition of linebacker Foye Oluokun to the roster. Still, it came as a surprise given Jack was the team’s best defensive player.
Last season, Jack led the Jaguars with 108 tackles and has had at least 107 tackles in three of the past four seasons. While 2021 was a bit of a down year following an impressive 2020 campaign, Jack is an underrated linebacker in the NFL and someone the Bears should definitely have on their radar.
After Monday’s spending spree, the Jaguars are releasing LB Myles Jack, per source.

With the Bears switching to a 4-3 defense, they need to find two starters alongside Roquan Smith at linebacker. Smith is likely to play the weak-side linebacker role, which means Chicago needs a middle linebacker and strong-side linebacker.
There are several intriguing options on the free agent market outside of Jack, including Bobby Wagner, Anthony Walker Jr. and Anthony Hitchens. We’ll see how Chicago ultimately addresses a big need at linebacker in free agency.
