The Bears added a second player to their 2017 draft class Friday night, using a second-round selection on Ashland tight end Adam Shaheen.
Shaheen is a massive man _ 6-foot-6, 278 pounds _ with a basketball background. His 16 touchdown catches last season set a Division II single-season record for tight ends and offered proof of his red zone potential.
After playing in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, Shaheen will likely need time to adapt to the speed and competition in the NFL.
A night after making the most talked about trade of the draft, the Bears opened Friday's second round with another deal. This time they moved back.
The trade, with the Arizona Cardinals, dropped the Bears from the 36th overall pick to No. 45. They also gave up their seventh-round selection (No. 221). In return, the Bears received a fourth-round pick (No. 119) and a sixth-rounder (No. 197) plus a fourth-rounder in 2018.
