Bears scouting report: Buccaneers LB Lavonte David

Nov. 22--Information for this report was obtained from NFL scouts.

Lavonte David is in his third season after being a second-round pick from Nebraska in 2012. He leads the Bucs with 115 tackles (14 for loss), more than twice as many as the next closest player on the roster.

"When I first saw him, he moved like a strong safety," the scout said of the 6-foot-1, 233-pounder. "He has really good hips and he has a great plant and drive on the ball so he can get some depth in his zone drops, plant his foot and then explode almost like a defensive back. I don't how big he is right now but if he lost some weight he probably could be a strong safety. He's very quick, very aggressive and a violent hitter. He's good in pass coverage and he's in the perfect system now for his skill set.

"He gets to play that will backer in the 4-3 and we know how important that is for (coach Lovie Smith). He's more like Derrick Brooks than Lance Briggs. He's more athletic than Lance, has a better body and is built more like an athletic football player. He doesn't have the instincts that Briggs does right now but he is getting there. When you watch him on film, he is so fast to the football, I think he makes up for it a little bit. When he does get those instincts, watch out."
