Bears safety Eddie Jackson dubbed one of biggest draft steals in last 5 years

When it comes to drafting in the first round of the NFL draft, Chicago Bears general manager Ryan Pace’s track record speaks for itself. Aside from linebacker Roquan Smith, Pace has been terrible drafting in the first round, which isn’t exactly encouraging heading into the 2021 draft.

But Pace does have a knack for finding some good talent in the later rounds of the draft, most recently rookie wide receiver Darnell Mooney, who was an absolute steal in the fifth round.

Bleacher Report ranked its biggest draft steals over the last five years, and it wasn’t a surprise to find safety Eddie Jackson on the list.

Chicago Bears safety Eddie Jackson lasted until the fourth round of the 2017 draft. However, the former Alabama defender has performed more like a first-rounder in the four seasons since.

Jackson exploded onto the scene in his first two seasons, where he totaled eight interceptions — including six in 2018 — and scored five defensive touchdowns.

Since joining the league in 2017, Jackson has totaled 31 pass break-ups, 10 interceptions, six defensive touchdowns, 266 tackles and six fumble recoveries.

“He’s a game-changer. He’s a game-wrecker,” Bears cornerback Desmond Trufant said.

While Jackson has experienced a bit of a drop-off over the last season, he remains a top safety in the league. With new defensive coordinator Sean Desai expected to bring some of Vic Fangio’s defense back to the forefront, we could be in for a bounce-back season from Jackson.
