It was just another game day for Bears right tackle Bobbie Massie on Monday until he experienced a dizzy spell in the morning. It was fairly brief, so he brushed it off, but he got wobbly again shortly before boarding the bus to FedEx Field.
“You feel like you don’t have any balance,” he said. “Your equilibrium is thrown off. Your vision gets blurry. It feels like the room is spinning. Basically it feels like you’re on a boat.
“Imagine if I grabbed your head and I just shook it, but you weren’t moving. That’s what it felt like.”
Massie was a late scratch, and the Bears went with Cornelius Lucas III in his place as they beat the Redskins 31-15. He had started 48 of a possible 50 games since joining the Bears in 2016.
Matt Nagy initially had no idea when Massie would be back, but he saw a doctor and recovered enough to fully practice all three days this week. He has not been on medication other than taking something for motion sickness early in the week.
Massie said he felt like his usual self again by Thursday and will play Sunday against the Vikings.
“It was something odd, but I wasn’t freaked out,” he said. “I was just feeling weird as [expletive].
“It just hit me out of nowhere. Didn’t feel good. It wasn’t a good day for me because I wasn’t at [expletive] 100 percent and wasn’t able to go out there and play... I got the situation taken care of and I’m back to normal.”
