Nov. 11--Chicago Bears rookie tackle Tayo Fabuluje was suspended four games by the NFL on Tuesday for a violation of its policy against performance-enhancing substances.
"I was recently informed that I tested positive for an amphetamine after taking a supplement that did not list any banned substances on the label," Fabuluje said in a statement released by the team. "As a result, I will be serving a four game suspension.
"Although it was not intentional, and I would never knowingly take a banned substance, I recognize that I am ultimately responsible as an NFL player for everything that goes in my body. I sincerely apologize to my teammates, the Chicago Bears organization and our fans and can't wait to come back and contribute to my team."
Fabuluje could not be reached for additional comment, but WMAQ-Ch. 5 reported the violation resulted from an appetite suppressant, citing Fabuluje.
Fabuluje, a sixth-round pick, was inactive for Monday's 22-19 win over the San Diego Chargers. But he had been active for the previous four games -- coinciding with Jermon Bushrod's injuries -- playing on the field-goal unit and in short-yardage and goal-line situations.
The suspension begins immediately.
Fabuluje is eligible to return on Monday, Dec. 7, following the Dec. 6 game against the San Francisco 49ers.
In other roster news, the Bears elevated receiver Deonte Thompson to the active roster from the practice squad.
They also signed guard/tackle Martin Wallace to the practice squad. He entered the league as an undrafted free agent from Temple in 2013. Wallace, who previously spent time with the Panthers, Browns and Buccaneers, was one of three linemen the team had in for a tryout on Friday.
Also, practice squad receiver Jalen Saunders was suspended four games by the league for an unspecified policy violation.
