Bears recycle Thanksgiving play for Anthony Miller TD

DETROIT — If Mitch Trubisky’s game-winning touchdown pass to Anthony Miller looked familiar, it was.

Sunday, Miller ran a go route out of the right slot, catching a 27-yard touchdown and toppling over the front right pylon to give the Bears their first lead with 1:55 to play.

On Thanksgiving last year, Miller ran the same route — down the same sideline toward the same end zone — out of the right slot. The result: a 32-yard catch on third-and-5 with about three minutes to play. It gave the Bears the ball on the 2. They’d eventually score — completing their rally.

“We just dressed it up a little differently with formation and all that,” quarterback Mitch Trubisky said. “It was the same end zone and the same side of the field, so it was kinda weird that that happened. I just trusted him. He kept telling me all game: ‘Trust me, trust me, stick with me.’ And I did.

“I just looked off the safety, put it in a place where he could make the play, and he made a phenomenal catch.”

Miller wanted to attack Tony McRae, the third-string cornerback who was playing because No. 3 overall pick Jeff Okudah sat out with an injury.

“I knew from when the play started that we had a great chance of making a big play,” said Miller, who had four catches for 76 yards.
