Bears re-sign TE Bradley Sowell, waive LB James Vaughters

It’s been too long since Bears tight end Bradley Sowell has been added to the active roster after being waived for the umpteenth time. But fret not, Sowell’s continued carousel ride between the active roster and practice squad continues.

The Bears signed Sowell to the active roster and waived linebacker James Vaughters, the team announced Monday.

For those keeping score at home, this is the fourth time this season Chicago has cut and re-signed Sowell.

The Bears elevated Vaughters to the active roster in place of injured linebacker Isaiah Irving, who battled a quad injury last week. With Vaughters being waived, and likely re-signed to the practice squad, it appears to be good news for Irving.

Irving didn’t play in Sunday’s game against the Eagles, while Vaughters played four defensive snaps and nine on special teams in his NFL debut.

Sowell has one catch for 2 yards and a touchdown in his career, which came last season against the Los Angeles Rams back when he played on the offensive line.
