Bears, RB Tarik Cohen agree to 3-year contract extension worth $17.25 million

Chicago Bears general manager Ryan Pace locked up one of the team’s key offensive weapons Saturday, signing running back Tarik Cohen to a three-year contract extension worth $17.25 million, with $5.75 million per year, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Cohen gets $9.533 million fully guaranteed with a maximum of $12.033 million guaranteed.

Cohen, a fourth-round draft pick back in 2017, burst onto the scene during his rookie season as a punt returner and became an integral part in head coach Matt Nagy’s offense.

The 25-year old has 257 carries for over 1,068 rushing yards and caught 205 passes for 1,540 yards one game into his fourth NFL season. Cohen has 15 total touchdowns, including special teams, where he was named first team All-Pro in 2018. He also has two career passing touchdowns.

The contract extension solidifies Cohen’s spot in the offense as the team’s scatback, able to carry the ball up the middle, run routes out of the backfield or line up as a wide receiver.
