Mike Davis’ mom has supported him throughout his entire life, and the new Chicago Bears running back finally got a chance to return the favor on Mother’s Day.
Davis shared a video on Twitter, where he surprised his mom with a new house for Mother’s Day. And, fair warning, you better make sure you have some tissues handy.
“Happy Mother’s Day Mom I love you so much,” Davis wrote on Instagram. “I remember when I was younger we moved every year to a new place. Days you didn’t eat but made sure we ate. I love you, enjoy your House.”
Earlier in the day, Davis posted some cryptic tweets that made a lot more sense after he posted the video of his emotional gift to the woman that raised him.
Davis has been candid over the years about his rugged upbringing, where he grew up in a rough Atlanta neighborhood with his two brothers, three sisters and his parents. But even more so, he’s been open about how everything he’s done over the years has been to help his mom.
When Davis entered the 2015 NFL Draft — choosing to leave the University of South Carolina early — he cited the need to support his mom as the reason why.
“My reason for entering the draft was because of my mom,” Davis said after the draft. “Late in the process she got an eviction notice on her door. I always wanted to help my mom out. I knew with no one else being able to help her I had to step up. That was a major reason for me to enter the draft.”
This offseason, Davis, who previously played for the 49ers and Seahawks, signed a two-year contract worth $6 million with the Bears, where he enters his fifth year in the league.
It’s safe to say that this is a Mother’s Day that Davis and his mom won’t soon forget.
