Bears RB Mike Davis remains positive in face of uncertain future

When Mike Davis signed with the Chicago Bears last March, he was anticipating finally getting a shot to prove what he can do as a running back in the NFL.

Instead, it’s been more of the same for Davis, who has been underutilized in a struggling Bears offense that has featured rookie running back David Montgomery. Which is why it makes sense that the Bears could cut their losses by cutting Davis.

If the Bears cut Davis before Sunday, they will improve their chances of receiving a compensatory fourth-round pick in 2020.

When Davis was asked about the possibility of being cut, he said that he’s only focusing on the things he can control.

“Thinking of something like that is negative,” Davis said, via the Sun-Times. “I really don’t care about outside voices. All I can do is show up every day, be a great teammate and be ready to go, no matter what happens.

“That’s just something that I’ve just got to stay positive, stay upbeat. Don’t let anything take my joy. Just come here, have fun and work. I love my guys. I love my teammates around me. I refuse to be that teammate who’s just bringing negative vibes.”

Despite his uncertain future, Davis refuses to give in to whatever negative thoughts might be swirling around him.

“I’ve been in a dark place before, when I was in Seattle when I first started,” Davis said. “I always told myself I wouldn’t go back to that place again. I’ll always keep a smile on my face, I’ll always be upbeat, no matter the situation.”
