There will be no contract drama with the Bears’ top draft pick this year.
The team agreed to terms of a four-year deal with rookie running back David Montgomery on Thursday, sources confirmed. The Bears drafted the Iowa State alum with their highest pick, a third-rounder, in April.
The team has yet to announce the move.
Montgomery’s salary will be similar to that of last year’s No. 73 overall pick, Dolphins outside linebacker Jerome Baker, who got a four-year, $3.8 million deal.
Head coach Matt Nagy said Wednesday that he wasn’t concerned Montgomery’s contract would get done.
The Bears, of course, waited until August to sign first-round pick Roquan Smith. The inside linebacker negotiated over the wording of his contract and never set foot in Bourbonnais for training camp.
