Bears quarterback Mitch Trubisky on Allen Robinson’s contract: ‘We want 12 here’

The Chicago Bears are one of 11 teams to begin the 2020 NFL season at 2-0, but instead of focusing on the hot start from QB Mitch Trubisky and the rest of the offense, the narrative around the club continues to focus on wide receiver Allen Robinson’s contract.

Robinson, who’s in the final year of a three-year, $42 million deal signed during the 2018 offseason, is the Bears’ most important offensive weapon and locker room leader. His teammates want him rewarded with an extension, even taking to Twitter with several hashtag campaigns in an effort to get a deal done.

It seems like general manager Ryan Pace wants a new deal, too, but it’s taking much longer than any Bears fan could’ve expected. The fact that running back Tarik Cohen inked a new three-year extension before A-Rob was a shock, to say the least.

Trubisky spoke with reporters Wednesday and threw his support behind Robinson’s quest for a new deal.

“We just continue to hope a contract gets figured out because we want 12 here,” Trubisky said.

It’s safe to assume Trubisky wants Robinson extended more than any other player on the roster. Let’s face it: A-Rob has made some miraculous catches on Trubisky misfires over the years and has been a big voice in support of Trubisky during the former second-overall pick’s struggles.

In 31 games with the Bears, Robinson’s totaled 161 catches, 2,008 yards and 11 touchdowns.
