Bears QB Mitch Trubisky undergoes surgery on non-throwing shoulder: report

Bears quarterback Mitch Trubisky had surgery to repair a torn labrum in his non-throwing shoulder this month, ESPN reported. It is unclear how much time Trubisky will miss, but the team anticipated the procedure.

Trubisky dislocated his left shoulder and tore his labrum trying to break his fall on a scramble against the Vikings in Week 4. He missed two games and played the rest of the season with his shoulder in a harness.

“Just doing the exit physicals yesterday, just kind of going through it, there’s a potential he could,” general manager Ryan Pace said in the year-end press conference. “We’re just going through that.”

Trubisky declined to answer when asked about that possibility in late December.

The Bears won’t be back on the field until May for organized team activities.

It would have been a convenient excuse for his poor play, but Trubisky and coach Matt Nagy maintained throughout the season that the injury was not a factor. Trubisky finished 28th in the NFL in passer rating at 83.0, and other than cutting back on interceptions, his numbers declined across the board.
