Bears QB Mitch Trubisky does what Packers' Aaron Rodgers could not: chug, chug, chug

CHICAGO _ Beer down, Mitch Trubisky. Beer down.

Social media is still buzzing about the Bears quarterback simply chugging a beer, which White Sox fans got to witness on the video board Friday at Guaranteed Rate Field. Trubisky threw the ceremonial first pitch before the game, comically fronted by several of his linemen.

Then during the game, Trubisky and his teammates downed their drinks for the cameras as fans at the ballpark cheered. Then in another shot, Trubisky and Bears guard Kyle Long gulped down a couple more brews as backup quarterback Chase Daniel shot it.

"Shoutout cameraman @ChaseDaniel you were a good opponent 10," Long said, referring to Trubisky's jersey No. 10.

This likely all started a little more than a week earlier when Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers chugged for fans at a Bucks-Raptors NBA playoff game.

Scratch that. What's the word for when you try to chug beer but you're not able to finish it. "Choke?"

Lions quarterback Matt Stafford's wife posted video of him successfully downing his brew in response to Rodgers' failure. She trolled Rodgers by adding "#kingofthenorth," referencing that her husband and Rodgers play in the NFC North Division and Rodgers recently made a cameo on the HBO series "Game of Thrones," where one of the main characters is called the "King in the North."

The Sox got in on the action too, tweeting: "This is how you get it done, @AaronRodgers12."

Since the Bears, Packers and Lions are division rivals, naturally the Twitterverse seized upon the comparison, with consensus casting Rodgers as the new lightweight in the NFC North.

For example, The Loop Sports writer Dan DeYoung tweeted, "Aaron Rodgers Vs. Mitch Trubisky. I think we know who the bigger man is. #Bears." He included side-by-side video of both players chugging.

It has gotten so bad that Rodgers' main receiver, Davante Adams, has jumped in to defend him.

"We'll see them on Sunday ... when it comes to the actual job he can get it done a little bit better than other guys can. He's got bragging rights on that," Lily Zhao, a sports anchor and reporter for WFRV in Green Bay, quoted Adams in a tweet.

Overlooked in all this is that Packers tackle David Bakhtiari and Bears guard Long easily outchugged their respective quarterbacks.

To be fair, they are offensive lineman, who are, generally speaking, 300-pounders.
