Bears QB Justin Fields is too focused on the present to worry about the future

Justin Fields has been inundated with questions about his future for the past few weeks. And with two games left this season, Fields’ uncertain future with the Chicago Bears continues to dominate headlines as the team is one Carolina Panthers loss away from being positioned to land Caleb Williams with the No. 1 overall pick.

But Fields has handled it all like the seasoned professional he’s been since arriving in Chicago three years ago. He’s focused on the task at hand — this week, that’s the Atlanta Falcons — and not worrying about what could happen in the coming months.

“I’ve got too much to focus on today to worry about tomorrow,” Fields said Wednesday at Halas Hall. “I’ve got to worry about this new game plan I’ve got, the play calls, and like I always say, we don’t know if we’re going to get it tomorrow. So there’s no point in stressing about tomorrow if we don’t know it’s going to be here yet.

“None of us really have control over our future. The only person who really has control over it is God and shoot if he has control over it then I’m good. So whatever he does with my life I’m good with that. I’ve been in this position before so you know, there’s no point because he’s going to take are of everything for me. So I’ll be good.”

But there’s a very good chance Fields will be playing elsewhere in 2024, as the Bears are primed to land the first overall pick for the second straight year and could opt to draft Williams, who some have dubbed a “generational talent.”

Sunday’s game against the Falcons could very well be Fields’ final home game as a Bear. So he’s focused on enjoying every moment — even with his future uncertain.

“Really just, I’m not taking that for granted and just taking each and every moment I have every day up here to the fullest,” Fields said.
