Bears quarterback Brian Hoyer suffered a broken left arm in the second quarter of Thursday night's game against the Green Bay Packers.
Hoyer yielded to backup Matt Barkley, who appeared in only his fifth NFL game and first since 2014. First-stringer Jay Cutler was inactive Thursday with a sprained right thumb that he suffered in the second game of the season.
Hoyer had thrown for at least 300 yards and no interceptions in four straight games. But the Bears were only 1-3 in that span.
He was injured when Packers linebackers Julius Peppers and Clay Matthews hit him as he attempted a third-down pass. His left wrist appeared to get folded up against Peppers' body, and Matthews then applied more contact. Hoyer screamed out in obvious pain, clutching his left forearm. Right guard Kyle Long tried to help him up, but Hoyer fell back to the ground.
He was 4-of-11 passing for 49 yards when he left the game.
