The Bears’ concerns about kicker Eddy Pineiro’s groin injury have lingered into the start of the season. They put him on Injured Reserve on Tuesday, meaning he will miss at least the first three games.
Cairo Santos, who is currently on their practice squad, is expected to be added to the active roster by Saturday to kick in the opener at Detroit on Sunday.
The NFL is allowing teams unlimited use of IR this season, but any player who goes on the list must stay there at least three weeks. That means the soonest Pineiro can return is Oct. 4 against the Colts.
